He bought the rights in the 1950s with 2 bottles of whiskey and the equivalent of 1,600 euros. The stripes were later incorporated into the trefoil logo in the 70s. The three leaves on the trefoil are said to represent the three continents where Adidas sportswear was sold at the time: Asia, Europe, and North America.
